Very ironic indeed! You know, I didn't even think of it that way until you pointed it out. He is always joking about how un-social he is, so I guess I barely registered that part of what he said...

I'm glad that homeschooling is going well for you- thanks for the encouragement! :)

I apologize if this seems rude, but I found something very ironic in your story. After all the worrying your husband did about homeschooling, he was the one that didn't want to socialize!

I had the same type of situation with my husband and our oldest daughter. I wanted to homeschool, he was less than enthusiastic. He gave us a one year trial, over the kindergarten year. That was over 4 years ago. Our oldest is in "3rd grade", and now my husband is adamantly against putting our girls into any kind of school institution!

I enjoyed reading your blog and hope that you have every bit of enjoyment in the homeschooling journey as we have had.

Congrats on your little one! That's a huge recommendation to me, that you work there and are planning to use Sonlight for you child.
Wow, I think if I worked where you do, I would probably waste half my time just inhaling that wonderful new book smell. :)
Regarding the Moby Wrap, it seems to me that a regular strip of cloth would work just fine. I found instructions for tying it here. Wraps worked much better for me than a sling.

Thanks for the Sonlight recommendation! I have pretty much decided to go ahead with buying one of the curriculums in the near future. I had some initial sticker shock, but was cured of this when I went on ebay and Amazon and added up the cost of the lowest priced used books plus shipping. I found that Sonlight seems to be a really great deal. I'm looking forward to getting started with homeschooling.

I enjoyed reading your post. I'm expecting my first baby in July, and am always looking for tips on what's really useful and what baby stuff is just "extra."
Good choice on Sonlight :) I LOVE the books in Sonlight's P4/5 package--I write for Sonlight, so I'm always pulling books off the shelf to see what they're like as I write about them. I hope to use Sonlight with our little one--as soon as he can actually sit up by himself, that is!
Do you think the Moby wrap--or any of the wraps on the market--are much different/better than a big piece of fabric you tie? "Cause I have lots of those from when I lived in Africa and wonder if I could use them as baby carriers like the women there do. But good support is an important thing, I guess. Just curious :)

Sonlight is, in my completely biased opinion [smile], a great option! You should certainly at least try it at some point in your educational journey.

I look forward to reading more about your family as you move forward in this.

I already have a couple of quilting books- although that would be great if you brought yours here as well. If I make a little baby quilt, that would be a motivator for me to fire up my new sewing machine. I haven't even attempted to use it yet. I know you could figure it out if I can't... :)

The dark red fluffy one that you knitted for J. is still our favorite for wrapping around her in chilly carrying-child-to-car situations.

If you want to try making a quilt, I happen to have several quilting reference books that I could bring out with me.

Alternatively, if you just want the new baby to have a handmade blanket of some kind, don't worry, I've got it covered. :)
